Jesse David Chavez (built-in August 21, 1983) is an American professional baseball bullpen for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at Riverside Community College, and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 42nd round of the 2002 Major League Baseball game Draft. He has also played in MLB for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, and Chicago Cubs, in addition to three other stints with the Atlanta Braves prior to 2023, ane of which included a World Series win in 2021.

Amateur career [edit]

Chavez was born in San Gabriel, California.[1] [two] A graduate of Fontana A.B. Miller High School in Fontana, California,[3] Chavez subsequently attended Riverside Community College, where he spent ii seasons. During his freshman season at Riverside, Chavez went xiii–two with a 1.96 ERA and xi–5 with a 1.93 ERA for his sophomore season.[4]

Professional career [edit]

Chavez was originally drafted in the 39th round out of loftier school by the Chicago Cubs, but opted to attend college instead.[5] Chavez was later drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft out of Riverside Community College.[6] In 2006 Chavez was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma where he pitched ane game before being traded.

Pittsburgh Pirates [edit]

The Rangers traded Chavez to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Kip Wells on July 31, 2006.[7] [8] He was assigned to the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians where he pitched the remainder of the flavor and all of 2007.

Chavez appeared in 51 games for the Indians in 2007, pitching to a iii.80 earned run average (ERA), and was promoted to the majors on August 27, making his debut the aforementioned solar day. He had a 4.48 ERA in 82 13 innings pitched for the Pirates from 2008 to 2009.

Atlanta Braves [edit]

The Pirates traded Chavez on November 3, 2009, to the Tampa Bay Rays in commutation for 2nd baseman Akinori Iwamura.[9] On December 10, he was traded over again, to the Atlanta Braves for Rafael Soriano.[10]

He had a 5.89 ERA in 36 23 innings pitched for the Braves in 2010.

Kansas City Royals [edit]

On July 31, 2010, Chavez was traded to the Kansas City Royals forth with Gregor Blanco and Tim Collins for Rick Ankiel and Kyle Farnsworth.[11] The Royals designated him for assignment on October xi, 2011.[12]

He had a 6.95 ERA in 33 two3 innings pitched for the Royals from 2010 to 2011.

Toronto Blueish Jays [edit]

On October 21, 2011, he was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.[xiii] He was designated for assignment on December 12 simply cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A.[14]

Chavez was traded to the Oakland Athletics on August 24, 2012, in exchange for cash considerations.[18]

Chavez began the 2013 season with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. He was recalled by Oakland on Apr 20,[19] and sent dorsum to Sacramento on April 29.[20] He was recalled again on May 10.[21] On June xiii, Chavez pitched five 23 shutout innings of relief in an 18-inning game confronting the New York Yankees, earning the win.[22] On July 31, Chavez pitched against the Blueish Jays for the first time since existence traded to Oakland and took the loss, yielding three runs in the 10th inning.

Atlanta Braves (3rd stint) [edit]

On April 20, 2022, Chavez, forth with cash considerations, was traded to the Atlanta Braves for Sean Newcomb.[fifty] [51]

Los Angeles Angels (3rd stint) [edit]

On August 2, 2022, Chavez and Tucker Davidson were traded from the Braves to the Los Angeles Angels for Raisel Iglesias.[52] [53] During the 2022 season, Chavez fix the tape for virtually trades in a Major League Baseball career, with ten.[54]

On August 29, Chavez was released by the Angels. In eleven games, Chavez posted a seven.59 ERA.[55]

Atlanta Braves (fourth stint) [edit]
